Amid temperatures hovering close to 100 degrees, several hundred shoppers braved the heat to be some of the first customers in line for the new 99 Cent Only store at Frontier Crossings in Kingman, Arizona. Over two dozen had been camping for two days prior as reported in the Kingman Daily Miner.
The 82,000 square foot shopping center is being jointly redeveloped by Accelerated Development Services and Wadsworth Development. 99 Cent Only and Sears Hometown both held their grand openings this week. A lease with Tractor Supply Company was also just finalized with plans to open in the 4th quarter of this year.
This morning, prior to the official store opening, shoppers were lined up across the parking lot to the street. Nearly 400 people were expected for the opening, and by all reports they met or exceeded that number. Many promotions were offered by 99 Cent Only during the grand opening. The most popular was for the first 9 shoppers in line. They were able to purchase a 40-inch Westinghouse flat screen television for only – you guessed it – 99 Cents. Everyone in line also was given a raffle ticket with one lucky member being able to also purchase one of the televisions.
The 17,000 square foot store features a perishable food department including produce, dairy and frozen food. The company currently operates 323 retail stores in California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada.
Sears Hometown announced in May that they would be moving from a location they had since 1995 across the street into the newly redeveloped shopping Center. They opened a 7,600 square foot store this week as well. The activity generated by these two openings is a welcome change to the shopping center which was a tired grocery center turned call center, into what is now a vibrant and relevant property adding jobs and value to the Kingman economy.
